The North Atlantic Alliance is not ready to invite Ukraine to the organization.

US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith stated this in an interview with the American publication Politico.

What Smith Said About NATO's Reluctance to Invite Ukraine

On October 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented his plan for victory.

One of its points is to invite Ukraine to NATO until the end of the conflict.

The alliance is not at the point today where it would be willing to offer Ukraine membership or an invitation, Smith told Politico .

Commenting on the possibility of the US refusing to protect European states within the alliance, the diplomat expressed confidence that Washington will continue to fulfill its obligations.

Regardless of what happens on November 5, the US Permanent Representative to NATO noted.

She also expressed the opinion that restrictions on defense purchases in the European Union, which wants to buy primarily European weapons, will become an obstacle to providing assistance to Ukraine.
