The XVI BRICS summit starts in Kazan: how many countries will take part in the event

Today, October 22, the sixteenth BRICS summit will begin in Kazan.

According to plans, 36 countries will participate in the event.

In addition, the participation of several international organizations is envisaged.

As TASS reports, the topics for discussion will be the following: crisis situations in the world, issues of forming multipolarity, and the accession of new countries to work in the international association.

Features of the current BRICS summit

It is emphasized that the event, which will be held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, will be the first BRICS summit in the “ten” format.

In other words, the event will involve not only Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which were previously part of the association.

New BRICS members will also participate in the summit: Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia. And Saudi Arabia, which is also in the "top ten".

In addition, participation in the event is expected from other countries of the global South and East that are not part of the association but want to cooperate with it.

António Guterres, who has been Secretary-General of the United Nations since the beginning of 2017, will also take part in the summit.

Before the event, Russian leader Vladimir Putin spoke of good prospects for BRICS.
