The five-year contract concluded between PJSC Gazprom and NAK Naftogaz and regulating the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine to Europe expires at the end of December this year.

As the director of the 2nd Department of CIS countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexey Polischuk told RIA Novosti , Kiev announced that they will not extend the contract.

At the same time, this route for pumping gas may be preserved – this option is not excluded.

When asked how Moscow plans to fulfill its obligations to export gas to Europe, the diplomat replied that domestic companies remain reliable suppliers.

He added that they always fulfill their obligations in good faith.

According to Alexey Polischuk, European consumers of Russian gas are aware of the current situation.

They also have a sober assessment of the difficulties that may arise as a result.

As far as the diplomat knows, the officials in charge are currently working on options for action that would ensure the interests of both consumers and suppliers.
