Ukraine's potential accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization could have serious consequences.

The corresponding statement was made by Alexey Polischuk, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the director of one of the departments of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in the current situation, Kyiv’s accession to NATO will make a political and diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict impossible.

This was Polischuk's comment after the statement by Peter Szijjarto, head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry. Recently, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said that under the current conditions, Ukraine's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance would mean the start of the third world war.

We constantly warn about the danger of Ukraine joining NATO, MIA " Russia Today " quotes Alexey Polischuk as saying.

Three consequences of Ukraine's accession to NATO

According to the diplomat, Kyiv’s potential accession to the above-mentioned military-political bloc will lead to the following:

  • the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict through the mechanisms of politics and diplomacy will be “put to rest”;
  • NATO will be directly involved in military operations against the Russian Federation;
  • the conflict will escalate uncontrollably.

Polischuk emphasized that Kyiv’s “Western curators” will be responsible for the third consequence.

A representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that there are sensible people in NATO leadership who understand what Ukraine’s accession to the military-political bloc could lead to.
