Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out in favor of long-term peace in Ukraine.

The head of the Russian state made a corresponding statement on October 18 at a meeting with media representatives from the BRICS countries.

Putin's words are quoted by TASS .

What Putin said about peace in Ukraine

The Russian president stated that the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible only through the creation of conditions for sustainable and long-term peace.

Brief ceasefires, Putin continued, will not help, since they will be used by the enemy to rearm.

He noted that Russia is ready to return to negotiations and recalled that it was not the Russian side that interrupted them.

Putin also recalled that Kyiv itself had forbidden itself from holding negotiations with Moscow.

Let him at least cancel this decree for a start. It's ridiculous to even talk about it, - the head of the Russian state declared.

The basis for negotiations, the Russian President added, should be the documents developed in Istanbul.
