Ukraine hopes to receive an invitation to join the North Atlantic Alliance before the end of US President Joseph Biden's term.
This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to NATO Natalia Galibarenko.
Her statement is quoted by Reuters .
Ukraine's Permanent Representative to NATO stated that inviting the country to the alliance would be a political signal.
We sincerely believe that this can be part of the legacy of the current American administration, ” the diplomat said.
Biden's term expires in the second half of January next year.
In early October, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during a visit to Kyiv, said that the day would come when Ukraine would become a full member of the alliance.
The head of the organization noted that the Russian Federation does not have the right of veto on this issue.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 14, named the conditions for negotiations with Kiev. Among them are Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, Ukraine's non-aligned and non-nuclear status, the lifting of sanctions, and the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass and Novorossiya.
