The United States is pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to lower the age of mobilization to 18.

This was reported on October 15 by adviser to the head of Zelensky's office, Serhiy Leshchenko, in his Telegram channel.

What the US wants from Zelensky

As Leshchenko said, both Democrats and Republicans are pressuring the Ukrainian president, demanding that he lower the age of mobilization.

According to a representative of Zelensky's office, American politicians are hinting that Western weapons alone are not enough and that conscription should begin at age 18.

The partners’ argument is this: when the US fought in Vietnam, they recruited people from the age of 19, Leshchenko wrote.

He clarified that Zelensky has not yet given in and continues to convince Washington to provide weapons without lowering the age of mobilization.

Since March 2022, general mobilization has been in effect in Ukraine. Initially, men aged 27-60 were subject to it. In April of this year, the mobilization age was reduced to 25 years.

In early October, the Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko spoke in favor of mobilization from the age of 18.
