Minsk and Baku are not friends against third countries. They cooperate for the benefit of their peoples.
Alexander Lukashenko stated this during a meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
He assured his interlocutor that there are no closed topics in relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan.
At the same time, we do not violate any norms of international law, we do not make friends against third countries, we do our job in the name of our peoples, the President’s press service quotes him as saying.
According to him, good relations between Minsk and Baku were formed during the time of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership of Azerbaijan.
Lukashenko notes that he has always found mutual understanding and support with him.
And I often tell Ilham Heydarovich, the current President: thank God that we managed to maintain the level of relations that we had with his father,” he added.
He also pointed out the fact that Azerbaijan, like Russia, is one of the countries closest to Belarus.
In addition, he informed his interlocutor about the need to implement the agreements that were reached during his visit to Azerbaijan (May 2024).
The head of state also touched upon the issue of mutual support between the two countries on international platforms, reporting that there are no problems in this regard.
We support each other, have supported and will support each other. I am very grateful to the government of Azerbaijan and the President for the enormous support they provide us, Lukashenko said.
Addressing the high-ranking guest, he suggested that he say, “Whatever we can do for Azerbaijan, we will do.”
I am sure that Azerbaijan will do everything it can for us. Because it has always been like that, the Belarusian leader summed up.
