Poland failed to assemble a brigade of local Ukrainians for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was announced by the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, in an interview with the Polish publication Wirtualna Polska.

Why Poland failed to assemble a brigade for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

As the minister explained, the creation of a brigade for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Poland is provided for by the agreement signed by Warsaw and Kiev.

He clarified that the Polish side is not responsible for recruitment, only for training.

According to the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Warsaw is ready to begin training volunteers, but there are too few of them.

The Ukrainian statements were very ambitious – that a whole brigade would be formed. However, there are not that many volunteers, – the head of the Polish defense department said.

He noted that this situation is causing a negative reaction in Polish society.

On July 8, after talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the creation of a volunteer unit in Poland called the “Ukrainian Legion” from Ukrainian citizens in the European Union.

The agreement signed by Zelensky and Tusk also provides for the training of Ukrainian military personnel in Poland as part of the agreement on the creation of a Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade.

In September, Polish media reported that the creation of the legion had not yet begun.
