The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the assassination of the Secretary General of the Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and called on Israel to cease hostilities.
The corresponding statement was posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The statement from the diplomatic department said that Russia strongly condemns the political murder committed by Israel.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the murder of Nasrullah would almost inevitably lead to a new surge in violence, and noted that Israel could not help but be aware of this.
Thus, he bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation, the department emphasized.
The Russian Foreign Ministry once again called on Israel to immediately cease hostilities.
The agency also called on responsible members of the international community to do everything possible to prevent a full-scale armed confrontation in the region.
