The Belarusian Foreign Ministry calls on Lithuania to step back from the brink and return to cooperation on a constructive basis.
The head of the Foreign Ministry, Maxim Ryzhenkov, called the situation “absolutely abnormal.”
The paradox is that the residents of Lithuania themselves, many of whom actively visit Belarus under the visa-free regime, also sincerely do not understand what is happening, why the Lithuanian leadership needs all this, the ONT TV channel quotes the minister as saying.
It is reported that Vilnius loses about $1 billion every year due to the breakdown in relations with Minsk.
And according to the European Commission, Lithuania's state budget deficit will continue to grow in 2024 and 2025.
In Minsk, there is a clear understanding that while it is not too late, it is necessary to step back from the brink of the abyss and return to constructive cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said.
And they recommended that Lithuania do this today, since “we may simply reach the point of no return.”
History will not forgive us for this, Belarusian diplomats warned.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs names the following steps as priority to stabilize relations:
– normalization of the migration situation at the border;
– de-escalation of military tensions;
– interaction between law enforcement agencies.
It is also recommended to resume the transfer of pensions and benefits, and restore the normal functioning of passenger and freight transport, including freight transit.
