The State Customs Committee of Belarus commented on Lithuania’s refusal to cooperate with Minsk.
The point is that Vilnius no longer wishes to fulfill its obligations under the agreement on cooperation in the customs sphere.
As the State Customs Committee press service reports on its Telegram channel, such a step by the neighboring country is yet another confirmation of its “disdainful attitude towards people,” including the Lithuanians themselves.
It is noted that the government of the Baltic state approved the initiative of the Ministry of Finance “to denounce the agreements on cooperation in the customs sphere with Belarus and Russia.”
But even before that, at the beginning of 2022, Lithuanian customs officials stopped cooperating with their Belarusian colleagues.
The State Customs Committee recalled that Minsk had previously repeatedly approached the Lithuanian side regarding the need to comply with agreements on the acceptance of vehicles.
Meetings were initiated to consider the possibility of resuming the work of closed checkpoints.
There was no reaction from the Lithuanians to these steps by Belarusian customs officials, the report says.
It is further noted that the latter still “demonstrate their attitude in every possible way.”
This is manifested in artificially created queues at the border, irregular registration of transport, and sometimes no registration at all.
Such actions are taking place in the conditions of operation of only two checkpoints, the Belarusian department summed up.
