France heard Russian President Vladimir Putin's warning about an inevitable escalation in the event of long-range weapons strikes on Russia.

This was reported by the French publication Le Monde, citing a diplomatic source.

How Putin's warning was received in France

As Le Monde reports, French officials have heard Putin's warning and want to avoid a third world war.

According to the publication’s source, the possibility of Russia expanding military operations cannot be ruled out.

We must do everything possible to avoid a third world war, the source said.

At the same time, despite the growing discussions in the media about strikes deep into the Russian Federation, at the official level the French authorities continue to remain silent.

Le Monde admits that the presidents of France and Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky, raised this issue in conversation, but the Elysee Palace does not confirm this.

The publication also recalls the recent visit to France of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Litvinenko. During the visit, this topic was to be discussed among other things.

In May, during a visit to Germany, the French president spoke of the need to neutralize military facilities from which strikes are carried out on Ukraine, but called for avoiding the destruction of civilian and military facilities not involved in the conflict.

Macron also stated then that France was only helping to defend the territory of Ukraine, remaining within the previous framework, and did not want escalation.

On September 12, Putin said that the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance are now not just discussing the possibility of Kiev using Western long-range weapons, but are deciding whether to become directly involved in the conflict.

According to the head of the Russian state, if this decision is made, it will mean direct participation of NATO countries in the war in Ukraine.

Prior to this, the British publication The Guardian, citing sources in the UK leadership, reported that the decision to allow Kyiv to strike deep into Russia with British Storm Shadow missiles had already been made, but that this would not be officially announced in the coming days.
