The corresponding statement was made against the backdrop of the arrest of a Japanese spy who was collecting information in Belarus.
On September 6, Japanese Ambassador Hiroyuki Yamamoto was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. A protest was lodged with the head of the Japanese diplomatic mission in connection with the recently detained Japanese citizen's espionage activities on the territory of our country, which damaged the security of the Republic of Belarus, BELTA quotes the statement of the Foreign Ministry's press secretary.
At the same time, Anatoly Glaz commented on the Japanese side’s request not to make this information public and to hide the crime of a Japanese citizen from the public.
The Foreign Ministry decided to ignore this appeal due to its illegitimacy.
Anatoly Glaz called the protest against the public showing of a documentary film about the arrest of a spy “ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, the film brings to the attention of society “the criminal nature of the actions of the Japanese citizen.”
It was also noted that the investigative procedures were carried out in accordance with Belarusian legislation and international legal norms.
Consular access has been ensured, the detainee is in comfortable conditions, he is provided with protection, and the Japanese side has been duly notified of all this.
The detainee voluntarily cooperates with the investigation and the media.
The investigation of the case is at the final stage, the measure of responsibility will be determined by the court in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus.
