There is a fairly common myth among cat owners that milk is the best treat for their pets.
In fact, this statement has nothing to do with reality.
Why Cats Can't Drink Milk
The thing is that milk contains lactose, while the intestines of most cats lack the enzyme necessary to digest it.
As a result, animals may experience vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain after drinking milk.
Also, don't forget that milk is a fatty product. A saucer of milk for a cat is about the same as a 30-centimeter pizza for a person.
Therefore, if you pour milk into your cat's bowl day after day, it may end up with your pet becoming obese.
When can you give milk to a cat?
The only acceptable situation in which you can give your pet milk to drink is when you have to feed a kitten that, for some reason, has been left without a mother.
And even then, this measure is temporary.
Even in such cases, special milk formulas for kittens should be used.
An adult cat should drink only clean water.
