Quite calm

The pet's tray should be placed where there is no noise from household appliances, in particular, a washing machine - the sounds made by the equipment can frighten the animal.

Moderately dark

Don't put the litter box in pitch darkness: cats can see well in semi-darkness, but not in total darkness. If the toilet area is 100% isolated from light, it may frighten the cat and it will stop visiting it.

Easily accessible

Your pet should be able to easily get to his litter box - if he spends most of his time on the first floor, where his toys, bowls and bed are, you shouldn't move the toilet to the basement.
