How to Store Cat Food: Rules All Owners Should Follow

Storing dry cat food is not such a difficult task, but there are some nuances here too.

First, let's remember the shelf life of dry food - if it is packed in an airtight container, it can last for 1-1.5 years.

However, storing it for too long can lead to both the formation of mold, which is an obvious sign of spoilage, and to a less obvious loss of taste and aroma – this can only be felt by its “users”, that is, cats.

Therefore, if you do not want to cause your pet any inconvenience, try to buy dry food not in bulk, but in sealed packages.

In them, the granules are placed under special conditions, "under a controlled atmosphere." Manufacturers remove oxygen from the packaging, thereby preventing the oxidation of fats, which, of course, has a positive effect on the palatability of dry food.

After opening the package, dry food should be immediately poured into sealed containers and stored in a dark, dry place with a temperature no higher than 20 degrees.

Sunlight and humidity degrade the taste of food and promote mold formation.

When buying a new portion of food, do not mix it with the old one; it is better to first completely feed the cat the previous food, then thoroughly wash and dry the container and only then add the new portion.
