How to help a cat with thick, long fur survive the heat: change the water and wipe the paws

The temperature ceases to be comfortable for cats when the thermometer rises above 25 degrees.

Unlike dogs, furry purrs cannot cool down quickly, so the owner’s task becomes to help the pet endure the heat.

Keep your home cool

You can provide the desired coolness with the help of an air conditioner, a fan, or even ordinary curtains, which should be drawn so that the sun's rays do not penetrate inside.

Set up a dark corner

Take the cat's bed to a dark and cool place. To help the cat understand that it will be better in a new location, in addition to the bedding, place cat toys and a water bottle here.

Change the water more often

You need to change the water 2-3 times a day, before that, thoroughly wash and wipe the bowl to prevent the formation of plaque in it. It will be better if you place several drinking bowls around the apartment at once.

Wipe your paws

Wipe your pet's paws, belly, and ears with a damp towel a couple of times a day. You can leave a basin filled with room-temperature water in the room in case the animal wants to climb into it and cool off, but don't force the cat into the shower.

Comb the fur

Even long-haired cats should not be trimmed - this will disrupt their thermoregulation. Instead, comb your whiskered pet every day in the morning or evening, when the heat subsides.
