Why you shouldn't stroke a cat against the grain: there are reasons, and they are not mystical at all

If you are a happy pet owner, you have probably heard the prohibition that states that you cannot stroke a cat against the grain.

Direction of hair growth
The hair on a cat's body grows in a certain direction. If you run your palm in the direction of hair growth, your pet will not experience any unpleasant sensations - on the contrary, such touches will bring him pleasure.
But as a result of stroking the fur, the hairs rise, and because each of them is surrounded by a large number of nerve endings, the cat experiences irritation bordering on pain.
Electrification of wool
If the owner strokes the cat against the grain, the adhesion of the keratin scales covering the hairs is disrupted.
The hairs begin to rub against each other and become electrified. As a result, the cat gets an electric shock, although not fatal, but quite unpleasant.
