Does your dog pick up food while walking outside? This is common behavior among pets - you shouldn't scold them for it, but you shouldn't ignore it either.

Today we will tell you how you can wean your dog off this bad habit.

What should be the first step?

First of all, you need to determine the cause of the problem. If this behavior is related to the dog's health, contact your veterinarian.

If the cause lies elsewhere, start working on behavior correction.

Your goal is to ensure that your pet learns two basic commands: “yes” and “no.”

The "yes" command is mastered at home.

Place the dog's food in the bowl, but don't let him start eating right away. Wait a few seconds, then say "okay." Let the dog learn that he can only start eating after you give him permission.

The command "no" or "no" requires more time and effort.

As soon as you notice your dog trying to pick up something on the street, clearly say "no." Tug on the leash to show your displeasure. Reward good behavior with a treat or affection. This will teach your dog that it should not pick up food on the street.

Practice the "no" command in a quiet place. Take a treat and ask a friend to spread it around the area, then take the dog for a walk.

Check if your dog responds to treats on the ground. If so, use the "no" command and pull the dog with the leash. Repeat this exercise until your dog no longer responds to treats.
