Which cage to choose for a hamster: and now - take a close look at the pet's head

Perhaps the most common problem that a new hamster owner faces is that their pet has escaped.

Today we will tell you what you need to do to prevent your animal from escaping.

As soon as you bring your hamster home, you need to immediately transfer it from the fragile carrier to a sturdy cage with a tray made of a reliable material, such as high-quality plastic or metal, and with doors that close tightly.

The bars of the cage should be close enough together that your pet cannot fit his head between them.

For adult Djungarian hamsters the distance should not exceed 0.8 cm, for Syrian hamsters – no more than 1.2 cm.

You should also pay attention to the fact that there are no large gaps between the bars and the tray of the cage, as well as between the door and the grate (which is often found in cheap cages).

We'll share a little life hack that will help you choose the right cage: when choosing a house for your hamster, consider the size of its head.

In burrowing animals, the skull cannot be flattened like the skeleton, so if the head fits through the hole, the body can also fit through.

Earlier we talked about why dogs bring sticks back from walks.
