Cat attacks on the Christmas tree only look funny from the outside. The consequences are predictable and sad.
But an animal has an even greater chance of ruining the holiday by eating New Year's tinsel. Veterinarians warn about the serious consequences of such fun.
Although in reality a cat does not necessarily have to react to a New Year tree. There are also animals that are completely indifferent to it. Although there are, of course, much fewer of them, - said veterinarian Angelina Sirotina in an interview with NEWS.ru.
According to the expert, the pet is attracted to decorations, flashing lights, and glitter.
In addition, the tree, although artificial, looks like a tree, which awakens the animal’s instinct to climb.
Most often, young cats under one year of age behave this way.
It is the tinsel and garland that pose the main threat to a cat's health, not the tree itself.
Due to the special structure of the tongue, the cat cannot spit out the “rain” and swallows even more of it.
As the veterinarian noted, the tinsel can get wrapped around the tongue, become entangled in the intestines, and cause poisoning or digestive problems.
If possible, you need to pull out the decoration by gently pulling the tip of the "rain". You can pull quietly and only if the decoration gives in.
If the jewelry gets stuck, you need to go to a veterinary clinic immediately – surgery may be required.
