Can you leave your dog alone at home: depends on the breed and age

No matter how much we enjoy being at home in the company of our pet, sooner or later the time comes to leave our cozy home and leave the dog alone at home.

Here the question arises in the mind of the animal's owner: how long can a dog be alone without becoming sad?

The answer to this question depends on two factors: firstly, the age of your pet, and secondly, its breed.

Let's start with the first point. Since tiny puppies constantly need our attention, they can be left alone within four walls for no more than an hour before they reach the age of two months.

After a month, the time spent alone with yourself can be increased to two hours, and after another two months – by two hours (for a total of four).

But when the dog turns five months old, you can leave it alone at home for up to five hours.

If we talk about the breed, we would advise you to consult with a professional dog handler who will be able to tell you about its characteristics.

For example, Chow Chows are not very attached to humans, so they will not suffer in the absence of their owner. French Bulldogs, on the other hand, will not tolerate separation for more than 6 hours without heartache. Dachshunds are recommended to be left alone for no longer than 8 hours, while Beagles will begin to show distress after only a couple of hours.
