If you have just recently become a guinea pig owner and have not been able to get a clear answer from the seller on how to care for the animal, this article is for you.
Today we will talk about bathing these animals. In the wild they manage their hygiene themselves, but at home they need help.
However, since, like many other rodents, guinea pigs are afraid of water, the bathing procedure should not be carried out too often.
If the fur coat is so dirty that you can't do without taking a bath, prepare a basin filled with water at a temperature of about 36 degrees. The water level should reach the middle of the pig's tummy.
Carefully place the animal in the basin and give the pig time to adapt, carefully pouring water over it from a ladle and talking in a calm voice.
When the fur is wet, apply a small amount of special shampoo and rub it over the pig's body, then rinse off the foam with water.
To clean the anal pocket, gently press on your pet's lower abdomen and use cotton swabs and baby oil to remove any feces or sawdust.
If your pet is a boy, you also need to clean the foreskin from straws and dirt, then rinse with warm water. You should act with extreme caution.
When all manipulations are completed, wrap the pig in a towel and let it rest, and then dry its fur with a hair dryer.
