Is it possible to let a red-eared turtle roam around the apartment: important information for reptile owners

Many people choose turtles as pets because they do not require walks or active movement.

However, sometimes it becomes boring to watch a pet sitting in an aquarium, so compassionate owners take it out of the house and allow it to wander around the room.

Of course, doing this is not prohibited, but you should follow a few rules so that the walk does not become the last one for your pet.

So, you should keep an eye on the turtle – it is not as slow as you might think. As soon as you turn away, the pet can slip out of sight and get stuck, for example, under the cabinet.

Please note: if the turtle has huddled in a corner and does not want to leave its secluded place under any circumstances, it is better not to take it out of its home – the reptile is in a state of stress.

A sudden change in temperature also causes discomfort to a turtle – just imagine being taken out of a cozy nest with a temperature of +30-32 degrees and placed on a cold floor. Pleasant? That's right.

It is worth remembering that turtles will never refuse to chew on something.

Therefore, before you arrange a promenade for your pet, thoroughly clean the room. And it is worth hiding electrical appliances and wires away from the gluttonous turtle's mouth.

The same thing, by the way, needs to be done with other animals in the house, if you have any.

To prevent the turtle from biting a cat or dog, and to prevent them from injuring the turtle, take all your pets to another room while the reptile is walking.
