In recent years, harnesses have become especially popular among dog owners.

Manufacturers praise their products in every possible way, telling about the advantages of such an accessory over a classic collar. But experienced dog handlers are in no hurry to walk a dog on a harness. Why is that?

Why do you need a harness?

A harness is a necessary accessory in cynology, but specialists use it for its intended purpose. The task of a harness is to create maximum comfort for a dog under certain loads.

A harness with a handle is used for service dogs to make the animal as comfortable as possible when it is set on an intruder. And the handle allows a person to hold the dog comfortably if necessary.

The second type of harness is a riding harness. It is used to tow a sled, skier or cart.

Hobbyists can use this device to pull small children on a sled. The harness is also used to pump up the dog's muscles by towing a tire.

Why do you need a collar?

A collar is needed to correct a dog. And it's not just about training. On a walk, a pet should have a tangible connection with its owner. It is impossible to control a dog on a harness. It simply "tows" a person in a free mode. This leads to the fact that many pets begin to pull on a walk, turning it into hell for themselves and the person.

The collar allows you to send the right message to the dog. A slight twitch attracts the pet's attention to the person.

A sharp twitch indicates that the owner is unhappy. A twitch to the right or left shows the dog where to turn, and a slight pull signals that it is time to stop.

In case of a risk of a fight, it is much easier to hold a large dog on a collar, because it creates discomfort when pulled too tightly. A harness, on the contrary, is designed to teach a dog to rush forward in an aggressive impulse. Therefore, a harness is used when passing the ZKS.

A leash and a collar are a tangible and understandable connection with the owner. There is a system of conditional signals that help the dog understand what is required of it. When walking on a harness, any impact is always the same - tension and restriction of movement.

The collar allows you to communicate with your pet, explaining to him when to stop, when to move on, what can be done and what cannot.

Sometimes a quick tug on the leash can save your pet's life, for example when he grabs a poisoned piece of meat. A tug on the harness will have no effect.

People who take the issue of training and safety of a dog seriously prefer walking on a collar. After all, a walk is not only moving from point A to point B, but also time for communication with the dog, which allows you to strengthen the bond with the pet and teach it to understand people.
