Do small breed dogs need to be trained: what do dog trainers say about it?

There is an opinion among dog lovers that small breed dogs do not need to be trained. But cynologists have a completely different opinion on this matter.

Experts are sure: any dog, even the smallest one, needs to be trained. And there are several reasons for this.

Reason one: development of intelligence

Small dogs are kept as companions, friends. But who wants to have a stupid friend? And a dog's intelligence, like a person's, develops through learning.

Even if you don't want your child to become a PhD candidate, you will still send him to school. At least so that he can learn to read, write, count and survive in society.

The dog also needs training. Training develops the brain, which means that the animal will become a real friend - smart, loyal and not causing inconvenience.

Reason two: safety

A disobedient dog is always at risk. It can run away, get hit by a car, attack a larger aggressive dog or a person who, defending himself, will harm it.

A dog that has undergone a training course obeys its owner, behaves appropriately on the street and in unfamiliar surroundings, and does not attack people or other animals.

If the owner ordered her to stand or go back, she will obey. And this can save her life.

Reason three: comfort

Barking, a constantly taut leash, aggression or fear, discontent of neighbors who want silence, a frightened child on the street - these and other components of life with an ill-mannered dog are unlikely to bring pleasure to anyone.

It is much more comfortable to live with a smart, well-mannered dog. You can talk to him after work, take a relaxed walk in the park without expecting problems with passers-by, go to a cafe and drink a cup of coffee. Agree, it is nice when people admire your dog, and do not curse it with the last words for frightening a child or preventing you from resting.

Reason 4: Solving behavioral problems

When a dog is not trained, it has a poor understanding of the world around it. It simply cannot understand, since its intelligence is poorly developed.

In this case, instincts come to the fore - to run away or attack in order to survive.

This leads to fearfulness, aggressiveness, uncontrollable barking, constant fear. The pet lives in constant stress, since the world is hostile to it, and the owner does not control the situation, commanding what and how to do. Then the dog tries to intimidate the "enemy" or run away. All these problems are solved by training.

In addition, training is a pleasant and interesting activity, because representatives of decorative breeds are usually very smart. These dogs were bred to live with people, they understand their owners perfectly and love to solve various problems in the learning process.
