It happens that cats come into the house straight from the street or from a shelter, and not at a very young age.
Here the question arises: how old is the pet? This needs to be known at least in order to choose the appropriate treatment or diet. In this case, there are several tips from experts.
You need to carefully examine the animal, first of all its teeth and fur, after which you can weigh the cat.
Their condition can be used to determine which age category the pet belongs to – a teenager or an elderly person. Kittens’ milk teeth grow between the ages of two and eight weeks. By four to eight months, they are completely replaced.
Tartar and plaque will help determine the age. Slightly yellowed teeth - the cat is about 2-3 years old. If the teeth are clearly yellow, the pet is probably 3 to 5 years old.
A more respectable age (over 10 years) is indicated by worn or broken teeth or their absence.
If they are kittens, they gain an average of 500 grams per month. So if a young cat weighs 1.5 kg, she is probably 3 months old.
But this is not the most accurate method of calculating the age of a cat, because much depends on the breed and lifestyle.
Kittens have short and thick fur. The body of young cats is covered with thin and soft hair.
The older the animal gets, the thicker and stiffer the fur becomes. At the same time, it can darken or, conversely, lighten. In addition, old cats turn gray and are no longer so attentive to their appearance.
