No cat owner would refuse to hold and pet their furry pet.
However, not all cats are receptive to this display of affection - some do not even agree to be petted.
It is quite difficult to understand why this happens, because such behavior can be caused by many reasons. Here are the most common ones.
1. If the animal was rarely picked up when it was still a kitten, it has not been socialized to the proper degree and as an adult will not show a desire to spend time hugging its owner.
2. This reason is also related to the pet’s childhood and is that the kitten had to go through an unsuccessful experience of communicating with people.
3. A cat may not want to be held if it is sick. Although sometimes the opposite happens – a sick pet seeks contact with its human.
4. Painful sensations can arise not only as a result of illness, but also due to a person’s unskilled actions.
5. A stressed cat is unlikely to be picked up. Moreover, it may show nervousness and aggression. To fix the situation, first find the source of stress and get rid of it.
