Many have heard that in Japan toilets are equipped with many additional functions.
But few people know that there are other toilets in the land of the rising sun, traditional ones.
They are capable of surprising a tourist visiting Japan for the first time no less than high-tech toilets.
After all, you need to use such a toilet while sitting facing forward.
In many public places in Japan, toilets are a floor-standing bowl, or, more simply, a hole in the floor.
This toilet is called Washiki and is shaped like a slipper.
A sign posted nearby explains that when sitting on the toilet, you should face the dome-shaped part.
It is designed to protect against splashes when the flush lever is pressed. And it is simply impossible to use such a toilet in any other way than sitting with your back to the exit.
