Native Russian speakers often have difficulties with the spelling of borrowed words.

One of these is the Italian noun rucola, which denotes an annual herbaceous plant of the genus Indau of the Brassicaceae family.

Please note: in Italian the word is written without the doubled consonant – rucola. By the way, the stress is on the first syllable.

However, - reports the online publication sport24, - for some time Russian dictionaries insisted on the spelling “arugula”.

And only in 2012 was a single standard spelling adopted based on the Italian “original” with one “k” – “arugula”.

However, many popular websites dedicated to the Russian language still do not reflect these changes, recorded in the Academic Russian Spelling Dictionary.

In addition, the word can be found with the “kk” variant in stores and restaurant menus, and even on some Internet portals.

Earlier it became known what mistake in a popular word immediately reveals an illiterate person.
