There was a major flare on the Sun, but it will not cause a magnetic storm.
This was reported on May 1 by the head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Bogachev.
The scientist’s statement is quoted by MIA “Russia Today” .
As the scientist said, a rather large flare was registered on the Sun. It did not reach the highest rating, but was close to it.
The flare occurred at the very edge of the star, on the western limb, from where the impact on Earth is very limited.
The event would have to be exceptionally powerful to hit the Earth in such a position, the laboratory director explained.
In addition, the flare was not followed by mass ejection towards Earth, so it was assigned a very low efficiency (less than 10%).
We do not expect any consequences and, in general, we confirm our forecast for a moderately calm holiday week, Bogachev concluded.
Earlier we told you what surprises the weather forecast for the month will bring.
