Luckily, there are some tips you can follow to help you shine no matter what event you find yourself at.
Imagine that you are an actor playing a role of a confident person. Just act as if you are completely confident in your actions. To others, feeling confident and faking it look the same. As you begin to act more confident, you will gradually begin to feel the same.
Always maintain eye contact – even with strangers. Instead of looking down, look straight into the eyes and don’t be shy about it. On a subconscious level, eye contact creates a sense of closeness or a sense of competition. Either way, this method is the easiest way to stand out without having to speak.
Even if you don't know anyone, try to keep the conversation going. Put your smartphone down and walk up to the first person you meet with a smile on your face to start a conversation with them cheerfully. The conversation will develop on its own, and if it doesn't, just walk up to someone else.
Don't worry about saying the wrong thing, making a bad joke, or being misunderstood. Even if something goes wrong, the consequences won't be as bad as you think. Think of it as a challenge, and over time you'll notice that you're putting in less and less effort. Eventually, your actions will become more natural.
