There is a high probability of X-magnitude solar flares in the coming days.
The head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Bogachev, warned about this on April 18.
The scientist’s statement is quoted by MIA “Russia Today” .
As Bogachev explained, a sharp increase in solar activity was last recorded at the end of March, when a magnetic storm of level G4 was registered, which became one of the largest in the last 20 years.
Since early April, the number of outbreaks has decreased sharply, but this hiatus appears to be coming to an end.
In the coming days, outbreaks of the highest X-score are possible, the scientist warned.
According to him, the flare energy accumulates in the southern hemisphere of the Sun, facing the Earth.
The most dangerous days are April 19 and 20. On these days, the largest active centers will be exactly on the line "Sun - Earth".
Depending on the power of X-ray radiation, solar flares are divided into 5 classes: A, B, C, M, X.
Scientists noted that the increase in the frequency and power of solar flares indicates that it is gradually approaching its peak activity. Presumably, it will occur in the middle of this year, although, according to some forecasts, it may be shifted to next year.
Solar flares can cause magnetic storms on Earth, which lead to power grid failures and affect the migration routes of animals and birds. Strong magnetic storms disrupt shortwave communications and navigation systems, and cause voltage failures in industrial networks.
Earlier it was reported that Belarus would conduct teacher certification in a new way.
