How to Diversify Your Life: Max Hawkins Method – You Definitely Won’t Be Bored

You may already be familiar with the story of Max Hawkins, a San Francisco engineer working at Google who one day became very concerned about how standardized his life was.

Every day he got up at 7am, drank a cup of coffee and rode his bike to work – until he came to the conclusion that in doing so he was limiting his freedom.

Hawkins, given his programming skills, decided to combat routine with the help of technology.

To do this, he created an app in the form of a random choice generator and lived “chaotically” for more than two years.

Algorithms made choices for him in absolutely everything.

The program chose what he would eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner, where he would live (Max moved every two months), what event to go to and even what music to listen to.

Hawkins trusted the app so much that he even got a tattoo of an image he randomly came across online.

Of course, with such a lifestyle he could not occupy his previous position, so he resigned from the corporation.

But Hawkins did take acrobatic yoga classes in Mumbai, visit goats on a farm in Slovenia, and dine at a cat cafe in Taipei, just to name a few.

According to him, such conditions helped him feel more complete.
