A Minsk resident wanted to find a part-time job on the Internet and became a victim of extortionists.
The press service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reported this on Telegram.
A resident of the capital who became a victim of blackmail contacted the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk.
The applicant found a part-time job as a tester on the social network Instagram (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta company, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
An HR specialist contacted him, and the conversation continued via messenger. After the interview, the applicant was convinced to log into the corporate ICloud with information about the applications he needed to test.
After logging into the corporate ICloud, the Minsk resident lost access to his smartphone (the attackers turned on the lost mode). After that, they demanded 720 rubles from him to restore access.
The Minsk resident realized that he had become a victim of fraud and contacted the police. A criminal case of extortion was opened on this fact.
The police are calling on citizens to be vigilant when communicating in messengers and reminding them that they cannot install applications at the request of strangers or log into other people's IClouds.
If you do become a victim of extortionists, do not agree to their demands, contact the police.
