Telephone scammers posing as employees of an energy organization and law enforcement agencies swindled more than 13,000 rubles from a Minsk resident.

This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

How the scammers operated

A 64-year-old pensioner contacted the Minsk police after becoming a victim of telephone scammers.

The applicant received a call on her home phone from an “employee of an energy organization.”

Under the pretext of adding the apartment to the list for replacing meters, the caller obtained the personal data of the Minsk resident.

At the same time, a call came in via messenger from a "law enforcement officer". He told the pensioner that she was talking not to an energy specialist, but to a fraudster, convinced her to hang up and "declare" her savings.

The woman believed them and transferred more than 13,000 rubles to the scammers’ account.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case of fraud on this fact.

The Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee reminds: representatives of government agencies and institutions do not call citizens in messengers on work issues and do not ask to provide personal data, take out a loan or perform any other actions.

If you receive such calls, you should immediately end the conversation and report the incident to the police.
