It has recently become known that in Minsk they are testing a system for automatically recording violations of traffic rules related to driving through a red light.
Currently, information is transmitted to the State Traffic Inspectorate only from one camera installed at the intersection of Bogdanovich and Shiroka Streets.
This camera automatically records violations of crossing an intersection on a red light.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reported that thanks to her, about two dozen drivers have already been brought to administrative responsibility in a month.
As Sergei Babich, head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee, reported on the ONT TV channel , for such violations drivers are held accountable “not automatically, but according to the general rules,” according to the Code of Administrative Offenses.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reminds: driving through a red light carries a fine of 40 to 200 rubles.
For a repeated violation within a year, the fine increases to 400 rubles.
If an emergency situation has been created, the culprit may be fined from 120 to 800 rubles and deprived of his license for 2 years.
If, when driving through a red light, a driver provokes an accident that leads to even less serious consequences for the victims, he may be subject to criminal liability.
As for the system being tested, Babich reported that at the intersection, the cameras allow the following to be checked automatically:
- what traffic light signal is on when a vehicle enters an intersection;
- what traffic light signal is on when crossing the stop line.
Subsequently, the analytics process this information and automatically provide us with the recorded violation, explained the head of the capital's traffic police.
The system is expected to be fully operational in 2025.
A representative of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate said that the cameras will first be installed at intersections with a high accident rate.
