Why Men Shouldn't Take Topless Photos: Women Don't Like It
As they say, there is no accounting for taste, but still, most women who are interested in a serious relationship do not approve of photos without shirts.
This is the conclusion reached by researchers from the University of Colorado, USA.
They found that men who post nude photos on dating apps come across as less attractive and less likely to have casual sex.
The study involved 567 respondents who were shown fictitious profiles of a young white adult male named Noah.
In one of them, the man was wearing a white T-shirt, while in the other he was captured topless.
Overall, female participants rated the shirtless man as having riskier sexual behavior, lower social desirability, and lower competence.
In many ways, their assessments were similar to those of men: the stronger sex believed that the shirtless man was more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior and had lower social attractiveness, but did not think that he had lower competence.
As a result, the authors of the study advised men to avoid sexualized self-presentation (which includes, among other things, nude photos) in their dating profiles, so as not to diminish the perception of his competence and not make people think that he is prone to risky sexual behavior.
