The Investigative Committee of Belarus for the Brest Region has named the cause of the high-profile accident near Ivatsevichi.
As a result of the accident that occurred on Saturday morning, November 16, the driver of a foreign car died, a female passenger and two children were injured, and a one-year-old baby miraculously escaped injury.
According to the department's press service , the cause of the tragedy was a truck turning around in a prohibited area.
A criminal case has been opened on the facts of the incident, the Investigative Committee noted.
According to the information released, on the morning of November 16, a truck driven by a 61-year-old driver was traveling along the M1 highway towards Brest.
At the 149th kilometer, he began to make a U-turn in a prohibited place, which is why an oncoming Audi car crashed into him.
Unfortunately, the 60-year-old driver of the German car died at the scene from his injuries.
A 32-year-old female passenger and two children (9 and 11 years old) were injured. Miraculously, a one-year-old child was not hurt.
An investigative task force, as well as employees of the State Forensic Expertise Department for the Brest Region and the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, worked at the scene of the accident.
A criminal case has been opened regarding the violation of traffic rules by the person driving the vehicle, which resulted in the death of a person through negligence.
