A very serious emergency occurred on Thursday, November 7, in the city of Nesvizh in the Minsk region of Belarus.
Mercury spilled in the apartment of local pensioners. Rescuers were notified about it.
As reported on the official telegram channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic, employees of the department immediately left for the scene.
Among them were specialists in radiation and chemical protection.
During demercurization work, rescuers collected 25 grams of mercury and mercury-containing waste, the report says.
Specialists collected mercury and neutralized its potential remains in hard-to-reach places of the apartment using special reagents.
The room was ventilated. Then the concentration of mercury vapor in the air was measured - no excess of the maximum norm was recorded.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations named the source of the mercury leak as “a breach in the seal of the glass tube of a mercury sphygmomanometer (a device for measuring blood pressure, a tonometer).
