MFA confirms Russian ship sank in Mediterranean

Recently, news came of a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea between Spain and Algeria.

The Russian dry cargo ship Ursa Major suffered a disaster - the ship sank after an explosion in the engine room.

Information about the incident was confirmed in the official Telegram channel of the Department of the Situation and Crisis Center (DSCC) of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As the portal "TUT NOVOSTI" writes , as a result of the incident, two people went missing, and another 14 were rescued.

It is noted that the vessel (owned by the company SK-YUG) sank in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

Of the 16 crew members (citizens of the Russian Federation), 14 people were rescued, two are missing, the report says.

The department noted that the rescue service delivered the victims to the port of the Spanish city of Cartagena.

It is also stated that the situation with the ship is currently under the control of the Ministry of Transport and Russian foreign institutions.

The media writes that Ursa Major left St. Petersburg about half a month ago.

The ship was heading to Vladivostok, where it was scheduled to arrive on January 22.

According to available information, the wrecked ship was built in 2009.

At present, nothing is known about the fate of the missing citizens; at least, no information has been received on this matter.
