An 18-year-old resident of Mogilev became a defendant in a criminal case after he found an advertisement for work on the Internet.
It is not reported how long he managed to work for telephone scammers. The young man was detained on the way to Minsk, where he was carrying the savings of an 84-year-old pensioner.
A teenager from Mogilev took the equivalent of 14 thousand rubles from an 84-year-old pensioner, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reports.
She believed the story about the accident that her grandson allegedly caused and agreed to give her savings to the scammers.
In order to save her relative from criminal liability, the woman handed over more than 14 thousand rubles in equivalent to the arriving courier.
When the deception was revealed, the victim of the scammers turned to the police for help.
Thanks to the efficiency of the Mogilev detectives, the money was returned to the victim.
Together with colleagues from Minsk, they established the identity of the messenger and took measures to detain the wanted person.
The courier turned out to be an 18-year-old Mogilev resident. Having received the cash, he went to Minsk by taxi and was detained on the way.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of fraud committed by an organized group. The detainee faces up to 10 years in prison.
