Belarusian taxi driver helps detain scammers' courier – prevents him from taking pensioner's money to neighboring country

In Belarus, a vigilant taxi driver helped law enforcement officers detain a courier of fraudsters who wanted to leave for a neighboring country with a pensioner's money.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic reported on this recent story on its Telegram channel.

According to the data released by the department, the taxi driver contacted the police by calling 102.

He said that he received an order from a foreign number for a trip from Minsk to a neighboring country.

The man suspected the passenger, who was planning to make such an expensive trip abroad, of being involved in a criminal scheme.

At the same time, a 74-year-old resident of the capital called the police, handing over $60,000 to a stranger, supposedly to help a relative who had been in an accident.

Detectives from the Central District Department of Internal Affairs promptly responded to both calls and established the circumstances of the incident, the ministry noted.

It turned out that a 46-year-old city resident, who was carrying out a task for telephone scammers, wanted to leave Minsk for another country by taxi.

According to him, the day before he found an advert for a part-time job on the Internet. He responded. But, as it turned out, his first task was his last.

All the money was confiscated from the courier. It will be returned to the pensioner who suffered from the actions of the criminals.

A criminal case has been opened on the fact of fraud, the press service summed up.
