A spy from Japan detained in Belarus is actively cooperating with the investigation.

We are talking about citizen Nakanishi Masatoshi, detained by the KGB on suspicion of collaborating with foreign intelligence.

The head of the Investigative Department of the State Security Committee, Konstantin Bychek, reported this in a special report entitled “The Failure of the “Samurai” from Tokyo” on the Belarus 1 TV channel.

According to him, the foreigner, while in Belarus, collected and transmitted military intelligence to the Japanese special service.

This information includes information about military infrastructure, the movement of troops and military equipment, the situation on the Ukrainian border, etc.

The detainee also worked on issues related to studying Belarusians for potential recruitment.

We are talking about those citizens who have access to state secrets, Bychek explained.

It is noted that during the investigation, irrefutable evidence of the Japanese man’s illegal activities was obtained.

For example, the KGB representative specifies, correspondence between Masatoshi and the center was found on the confiscated equipment.

The correspondence includes his reports on completed tasks, financial expenses and other similar information.

In addition, there were multiple recorded meetings between the Japanese and representatives of foreign intelligence services who work in Belarus under diplomatic cover, the head of the investigative department noted.

He added: the detainee was charged under Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, which provides for liability for intelligence activities.

The accused is being held in a KGB pre-trial detention facility, actively cooperating with the investigation and giving detailed testimony about his illegal activities, Bychek summed up.
