The Investigative Committee for the Brest Region reported details of a high-profile accident that occurred at the end of August.
As a result of that accident, which took place in the Brest region, five people were injured. The driver of one of the cars is currently in custody.
As reported by the press service of the regional department, on the evening of August 29, a Toyota driven by a 43-year-old driver was driving in the Brest region.
The foreign car was moving along the H113 highway towards the regional center. At some point, it drove into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a Volkswagen.
It is known that there were children in the German car: a one-year-old child and a ten-year-old girl.
As a result of the accident, all participants received injuries of varying severity, and the 67-year-old passenger of the Toyota received serious bodily injuries, the Investigative Committee noted.
Investigators, specialists from the State Forensic Expertise Department for the Brest Region, and employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate worked at the scene of the incident.
It turned out that the 43-year-old man who was driving the Japanese car did not have the right to drive a vehicle. Moreover, he was driving while under the influence.
A criminal case has been opened against him (a resident of Brest) for violating traffic regulations by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which resulted in the inadvertent causing of serious bodily harm.
With the prosecutor’s approval, a preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to him, the press service reported.
They also drew attention to the fact that the Toyota driver faces up to 8 years in prison for his actions.
