The day before, the whole world learned about the latest secret development of the Russian military-industrial complex - the Oreshnik missile.

The Russian Armed Forces conducted a combat test of a medium-range ballistic missile with a non-nuclear hypersonic warhead, striking the Ukrainian Yuzhmash plant.

Following Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of Russia's response to the attack with Western weapons and successful missile tests, the first comments appeared in Western media .

The publication was posted by the online magazine Defense One, an American publishing company, Atlantic Media.

The article, citing an expert, says that it will be quite difficult to defend against the Russian “Oreshnik”.

Defense One cites the opinion of Tom Karako, director of the Missile Defense Project at CSIS.

After assessing the video of the missile's arrival and explosion, he stated that it was probably a missile with a multiple warhead equipped with independent guidance.

If his guesses are confirmed, then the means of protection against a strike from such a missile is to hit several targets at once.

But given the rapid approach and if it is a medium-range ballistic missile on an elevated trajectory, this is extremely difficult to do.

In addition, the maneuverability of multiple warheads complicates the task.

In conclusion, Karako said that it would be difficult to find a means of defense against such a weapon.

For reference

A rocket is an aircraft that moves in space due to the action of jet thrust, which occurs only as a result of the ejection of part of the apparatus’s own mass (working fluid) and without the use of matter from the environment.
