The Parliament of Abkhazia accepted the resignation of the President of the Republic, Aslan Bzhania.
Let us recall that, as reported earlier, following recent negotiations between the authorities and the opposition, an agreement was reached, within the framework of which Bzhania submitted his resignation.
According to the TASS agency, 31 deputies took part in the vote: 28 supported the resignation, one voted against, and two more ballots were spoiled.
The current Vice President Badra Gunba has been appointed acting president, as announced by the Speaker of Parliament Lasha Ashuba.
Next week, Abkhazia should announce the dates for presidential elections.
Let us add that Bzhania, when resigning, stated that he was doing so in order to “preserve stability and constitutional order in the country.”
According to the constitution of Abkhazia, the resignation must be accepted by parliament.
