French President Emmanuel Macron has approved the composition of the country's new government.

The event took place during a meeting between the head of state and Prime Minister François Bayrou.

According to TASS, members of the previous Cabinet retained key positions in the updated Cabinet of Ministers.

The news agency clarifies: this follows from the list announced by the Secretary General of the Elysee Palace, Alexis Kohler.

In particular, Jean-Noël Barrot will continue to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sébastien Lecornu and Bruno Retailleau retained their posts as ministers of the armed forces and the interior.

The Ministry of Economy will be headed by the general director of the government Deposit and Consignment Fund, Eric Lombard.

The new government will also include four state ministers (deputy prime ministers).

They are empowered to issue their own decrees without having to request the Prime Minister to do so.

We are talking about two former premiers, Elisabeth Born and Manuel Valls.

The first now heads the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research.

The second, who previously also headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is now the Minister of Overseas Territories.

Another minister of state is the former head of the Ministry of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who now oversees the Ministry of Justice.

The fourth is Bruno Retailleau, who, as already noted, retained his post as head of the Ministry of the Interior.

In total, the new government has 35 members, 14 of whom have full ministerial powers.
