Bundestag members from the Sahra Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party raised the issue of the presence of German troops in Ukraine.

They sent a corresponding written request to the German government. The document was published on the official website of the parliament.

The authors of the request cite a study by Business Insider, which was published on October 15 of this year, TASS reports .

What did the Germans do in Ukraine?

It states that German soldiers had been in Kyiv for several months – since the beginning of last summer.

They were said to be there as part of NATO's mission to provide security assistance and training to Ukraine.

Their task, it is claimed, was to support the Kyiv authorities through military training and “coordination of arms supplies.”

In addition, according to the authors of the study, German military personnel allegedly advised the Ukrainian government on the issue of supplying weapons to the country, but without the knowledge of the German authorities.

The soldiers were ordered to return from Kyiv in mid-September on the instructions of the German Ministry of Defense, the request states.

Questions from parliamentarians

In connection with the above-mentioned facts, the deputies are waiting for an explanation from the government, recalling that Chancellor Scholz promised several times during the year not to send German soldiers to Ukraine.

Parliamentarians ask the Cabinet of Ministers: “Is it true that Bundeswehr soldiers advised the Ukrainian government in Kyiv without the knowledge of the German government, as the Business Insider study shows?”

Another question raised: “How does the German government explain that the presence of Bundeswehr soldiers, as the Business Insider study suggests, took place without the knowledge of the German government?”

The deputies also ask: were German soldiers in Kyiv at the beginning of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on Russian territory on August 6?

If so, in what capacity and to what extent were German soldiers involved in the planning, execution and logistical support of the offensive?

In total, parliamentarians asked the government 11 questions regarding the possible presence of their soldiers in Ukraine.

What do the deputies want?

They say that the presence of German troops in Ukraine and, accordingly, in the combat zone, “raises questions of international law concerning the conditions under which the FRG itself can become a party to the war.”

The deputies say that all available measures must be taken to avoid the conflict from escalating.

They also propose to "achieve an immediate ceasefire."
